Mahindra’s Scorpio N-based pickup spotted in India, expected to debut in 2025
Mahindra appears to be preparing a new addition to the Scorpio N lineup, as a pickup truck based on the popular SUV was recently spotted testing in Manali, Himachal Pradesh. The test vehicle closely resembles the Mahindra Global Pik Up concept unveiled in 2023, which was designed for international markets. At the time of the concept’s reveal, the company had confirmed that a production version would be developed on a next-generation ladder-frame chassis and is expected to debut in 2025.
Design and Features
The test mule maintains a strong visual connection to the Scorpio N SUV, sharing key design elements such as the LED headlamp signature, alloy wheels, and front-end styling. However, in contrast to the dual-cab layout showcased in the Global Pik Up concept, the test vehicle features a single-cab configuration with an extended cargo bed. Additionally, it has a notably long rear overhang, which may indicate a focus on maximising load-carrying capacity.
While the front fascia remains largely unchanged from the Scorpio N SUV, some differences are apparent when compared to the concept. The Global Pik Up concept featured a distinct grille design and a simplified bumper with a prominent tow hook, whereas the test mule retains the SUV’s existing design language.
Powertrain
The Scorpio N pickup is expected to be powered by the same 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine found in the Scorpio N SUV. This engine produces approximately 175 HP and up to 400 Nm of torque and is likely to be paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Given its intended utilitarian nature, the pickup truck is also expected to feature four-wheel drive with shift-on-the-fly capability and multiple terrain drive modes, including settings for Normal, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Rut and Sand.
Market Positioning
Although Mahindra has not officially confirmed the vehicle’s production timeline, the pickup truck is anticipated to be an export-focused model, with South Africa as a key target market. While an India launch has not been ruled out entirely, it appears unlikely at this stage. Mahindra may first gauge its reception in international markets before considering its viability for the domestic market.
With the growing global demand for lifestyle-oriented and utility pickup trucks, Mahindra’s move to expand the Scorpio N lineup could strengthen its presence in the segment. More details about the production version and its launch schedule are expected to emerge in the coming months.
