A Chinese regulator has unveiled the new MG 4 hatchback, providing us with information about the exterior and some of the next-generation EV's features. Even though sales in its home market are low, the hatchback is sufficiently well-liked in European markets to warrant a new generation barely two years after the MG 4 was initially introduced. While the electric hatchback was being assessed for our market, the departing MG 4 was on display at Auto Expo 2023.
- New MG 4 EV is nearly 4.4m long and has a 2.75m long wheelbase

New MG 4 exterior and design
New MG 4 larger than Creta or Windsor

The new-generation MG 4 is larger than its predecessor, measuring 4,395mm long, 1,842mm wide, and 1,551mm height, with a 2,750mm wheelbase. These proportions make it 108mm longer, 4mm wider, 35mm taller, and with a 45mm longer wheelbase. In fact, the new MG 4 is larger than the Hyundai Creta and MG Windsor on sale in India in almost every metric, making it a huge hatchback. In European markets, rivals include the Volkswagen ID.3.
Some design elements taken from Cyberster

Compared to the EV shown at Auto Expo 2023, the all-new hatchback has a revamped front end, new doors and rear end, and the greenhouse appears wider. MG has employed components from the upcoming Cyberster on the new 4, such as slimmer headlight units, an aggressive honeycomb intake on the front bumper, and arrow-shaped LED signatures in the taillights.
New MG 4 range, battery, powertrain
New MG 4 has less power than its predecessor

While the battery parameters for the new MG 4 have not been released, Rept Battero Energy will supply the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) setup. The battery powers a 163 horsepower motor, which is believed to let the electric hatchback reach a top speed of 160 kilometres per hour.
It should be noted that its predecessor's entry-level model used a 51kWh (net) battery with a WLTP range of 350km and a 170hp, 250Nm rear axle-mounted engine. Select markets, such as the United Kingdom, also sold 64kWh and 77kWh variants, as well as a 435hp AWD model with motors on each axle.
Neither MG Motor nor the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) have unveiled the new MG 4's interior design. The previous model's cockpit had a dash with sleek, horizontal lines and two floating screens for infotainment and the instrument cluster. The MG 4's features included a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, and an ADAS suite.
