
Kia has started accepting bookings for the Carens Clavis EV, its first made-in-India electric vehicle, after announcing prices last week. The new MPV can be booked for Rs 25,000 online or at dealerships, and will be sold alongside the petrol-powered Clavis.

In comparison to the BYD eMax 7, which is priced from Rs 26.90 lakh-29.90 lakh, ex-showroom India, the Kia Carens Clavis electric is significantly more affordable across the board.
Kia Carens Clavis EV range, battery and charging specs
490km max range, fast charging support of up to 100kW
The Kia Clavis EV is available with two battery pack options: a 42kWh unit with a range of 404km and a larger 51.4kWh battery offering 490km, both ARAI rated. The standard range (SR) battery powers a 135hp motor, while the long range (LR) pack is wired to a more powerful 171hp unit. Both e-motors are mounted on the front axle; Kia claims the Clavis EV LR models do the 0 to 100kph sprint in 8.4 seconds.
Charging speeds and times
Kia is offering 7.4kW and 11kW AC charger options; the latter charges the 42kWh battery in 4 hours and the 51.4kWh pack in 4 hours 45 minutes (both 10-100 percent). With a DC fast charger, Kia claims the SR and LR batteries can be juiced up in just 39 minutes from 10-80 percent.

To justify the premium positioning, Kia has equipped the Carens Clavis EV with all-LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, twin 12.3-inch screens (touchscreen and driver’s display), wireless Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay, an 8-speaker Bose sound system and a panoramic sunroof. There's also ventilated front seats, powered driver’s seat, one-touch electric tumble for the second row seat (kerb-side), Boss mode and V2L charging support. Unlike the combustion-run Carens Clavis with 6 (captain chairs) and 7 seat options, the electric version is offered in the latter configuration only.
Safety kit includes Level 2 ADAS, 6 airbags, ESC, ABS, 360-degree camera setup, hill-start assist, TPMS and all-wheel disc brakes. It should be noted that variant-wise Clavis EV features will differ.
