Along with unveiling the new Sierra, Tata Motors also showcased the new platform on which the SUV is built. Called the All-Terrain Ready, Omni-Energy and Geometry Scalable Architecture (ARGOS) platform, it not only underpins the Sierra but will also underpin future models in its lineup. Here’s everything you need to know about the platform
Where does ARGOS fit in Tata's platform strategy?
The ARGOS platform sits between the ATLAS platform, which underpins SUVs like the Curvv (ICE and EV), and the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) derived OMEGA ARC platform that underpins the Harrier and Safari SUVs. Essentially, this platform can be used to develop Tata SUVs with a length between 4.3m to 4.6m.
Tata claims that ARGOS has been developed for enhancing its overall dimensions and bringing it on par with SUVs in its class and a class above. In its class, the SUV gets the biggest height and width at 1715mm and 1841mm respectively, and it gets the longest wheelbase and ground clearance at 2730mm and 205mm respectively. The ARGOS platform also enables better handling in rough conditions, with the Sierra getting a decent 450mm of water wading capacity.
Which future models will the ARGOS platform support?

While the platform currently underpins the ICE-powered Sierra. The upcoming ICE-powered Sierra AWD in early 2027 and possibly a 7-seater version of the Sierra will be supported by the ARGOS platform.
Which powertrains will the ARGOS platform support?
The ARGOS platform supports multiple powertrains, including petrol, diesel, hybrid, all-electric and CNG-powered vehicles. Currently, the ARGOS platform underpinning the Sierra comes with the new 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 106hp and 145Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT automatic, a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 160hp and 255Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 118hp and 260Nm of torque (280Nm on AT) mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
What are the key features of the ARGOS platform?
For starters, ARGOS is an AWD-ready platform. It not only supports multiple powertrains (mentioned above) but is the first to debut Tata’s new-gen electrical architecture, and also supports the development of Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs). This enables a better E/E (electrical/electronic) architecture than the ATLAS platform, since it can accommodate more tech related features like ADAS, 5G connectivity and OTA updates.
