The latest iteration of the Hyundai Venue was launched nearly two years after the Creta facelift. Both these cars represent Hyundai’s top sellers within their respective segments. However, which one of these should you choose if your budget lies between Rs 14 lakh and Rs 17 lakh? That is what we will find out by comparing their key features and specifications to see which model offers the better value-for-money proposition.

Slotting into the midsize SUV segment, the Creta is 335mm longer than the Venue. This length advantage also entails more distance between the front and rear wheels, with the Creta boasting a wheelbase that is 90mm longer than its compact SUV stablemate. On the other hand, the Venue is 30mm taller than the Creta, primarily owing to its exaggerated roof rails. It is also ever so slightly wider.
Hyundai Venue vs Creta: Powertrain options

Hyundai’s tried & tested U2 diesel engine is available in the top HX10 trim of the Venue and the mid-spec S (O) trim of the Creta. In both these applications, this four-cylinder oil burner puts out identical power and torque figures. This diesel powerplant can be mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque-converter automatic. However, buyers going for the Creta petrol get to choose between the manual and automatic gearboxes, whereas those going for the top-spec Venue have no other option other than the dual-clutch automatic.
Hyundai Venue vs Creta: Exterior features
Exterior niceties on the mid-spec Creta are almost on par with the Venue’s top trim.

The most novel exterior bit on the Venue is its puddle lamps, which add to the sense of occasion and also light up the ground around the front doors. This feature is not available in the mid-spec Creta S (O). What it does get, however, are larger alloy wheels that are finished in a sporty-looking black shade. The mid-spec Creta also does not look bargain-basement as it gets connected rear lights and a multi-beam headlamp setup, just like on the top-spec Venue

Being the range-topping trim of the Venue, the HX10 is brimming with feel-good features that are simply not available in the decidedly mid-spec Creta S (O). Among the highlights inside the Venue are the larger screens, a Bose-branded audio system, ventilated front seats, plus electric operation for the driver’s seat. The HX10 trim further adds Hyundai’s Bluelink connected-car suite, over-the-air (OTA) software updates, and leatherette upholstery.
While it is not as feature-packed, the mid-spec Creta’s interior is not spartan by any measure. In fact, the S (O) trim gets front & rear wireless charging pads and a dual-zone automatic climate control system, neither of which is offered even in the top-spec Venue.

When it comes to additional driving-related features, the Venue and Creta are both equally equipped. However, almost all of the features mentioned in the table above are offered exclusively with the torque-converter automatic or dual-clutch transmission variants. That said, while cruise control is available in both SUVs, only the top-spec Venue has adaptive cruise control with a ‘stop & go’ function.

The Venue’s top-spec trim has a clear advantage here, offering Hyundai’s SmartSense Level 2 ADAS suite. It bolsters its equipment list with surround-view cameras and automatic wipers – these are unavailable in the mid-spec Creta. However, it still offers a rear defogger & wiper and automatic headlamps.

When it comes to their prices, it is only the diesel automatic variants of the Venue HX10 and Creta S (O) that can be directly compared. This is because the rest of the powertrain options are exclusive to the individual variants of each model. With a difference of Rs 1.61 lakh, the gap between the fully-loaded Venue and middle-of-the-pack Creta diesel is not huge but still worth mentioning. Also, do note that the prices mentioned above do not include dual-tone colours or Knight editions.
Hyundai Venue top-spec vs Hyundai Creta mid-spec: Which should you pick?
The mid-spec Creta is a well-rounded package with enough equipment on offer.
The S (O) trim offers all the essential features that buyers would realistically need – be it convenience-related equipment or safety nannies – it has enough to not feel barebones while also providing a more spacious and comfortable interior. With barely a lakh of rupees separating the Venue HX10 petrol DCT and Creta S (O) petrol IVT, the latter would be a better value-for-money purchase.
