The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 debuts in India, limited to just three units
Mercedes-Benz has launched the Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series in India at a price of Rs. 4.2 crores (ex-showroom). This special roadster is Maybach's first foray into the sector, offering a distinct blend of performance and luxury. With only three units allotted for the Indian market in 2025, the model is expected to be a rare and in-demand product.
Distinctive Exterior Design
The Maybach SL 680 is based on the AMG SL 63, although it has significant design upgrades that set it apart from its high-performance sister. The front grille features a chrome radiator design with lighted vertical slats and a large 'MAYBACH' lettering. The tall, sculpted bonnet, painted in Obsidian Black, boldly shows Maybach emblems, which may also be incorporated into the fabric of the soft-top roof as part of Mercedes' customization program.
The side profile features custom 21-inch forged wheels with a unique 5-hole design and 36 spokes radiating from the classic three-pointed star logo. A sleek chrome strip spans the length of the automobile, with additional chrome trim on the door handles and front fenders. A streamlined bumper design with chrome components at the back gives the SL roadster a more elegant appearance than the ordinary model.
Opulent Interior
Inside, the SL 680 has two seats, as opposed to the AMG SL 63's four. The interior is outfitted with exquisite white Nappa leather upholstery from Mercedes' Manufaktur customisation division. Signature Maybach designs are incorporated in the seats, and the three-spoke steering wheel boldly displays the Maybach logo. The Maybach logo can also be found on the roll hoops beneath the seat headrests, confirming the car's premium status.
The driver-centric cockpit features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch portrait-style center touchscreen that can be positioned for optimal sight. Mercedes' AI-powered MBUX multimedia system is integrated to improve connectivity and convenience. Furthermore, the manufacturer has modified the exhaust system to reduce cabin noise, and the suspension arrangement has been fine-tuned to prioritize comfort over sheer sportiness.
Performance and Powertrain
The Maybach SL 680 is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 585 horsepower and 800 Nm of peak torque. Twin-scroll turbochargers placed strategically between the cylinder heads improve throttle response. A 9-speed automatic transmission transfers power to all four wheels, allowing the roadster to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. While slightly slower than the AMG SL 63, it provides a more sophisticated and elegant driving experience. The top speed is electrically controlled to 260 kilometers per hour.
Exclusive Offering
Given its restricted availability and specific customizing choices, it is expected to become a collector's item among Indian car fans. Bookings are currently available, with only three units reserved for this year.
